Local Reporter Files Story; Local Dead File Back In
It began, as most things in Bellweather do, with a complaint about the bins. By Thursday the recently deceased were back: hanging out washing, queuing at the post office, propping up the bar at The Ship Inn and politely declining to leave. The Gazette calls them the Deadies. They do not call themselves anything. They are very busy.
Reporter Gideon Flyte — chasing a real story for the first time in a decade — discovers a town that has decided the sensible British response to a localised apocalypse is to carry on, file the paperwork, and possibly charge tourists admission. As the population both grows and decomposes, the Gazette races toward the one deadline nobody beats.
